SUB RN: $250 per day      

SUB LVN: $150 per day 

HEALTH SCREENER: $115 per day

Primary Purpose:

Act as a substitute nurse for all schools.  Provide school nurse assistance in delivery of care in areas of critical need.

 

Qualifications:

      Education/Certification:

      Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program

      Valid Registered Nurse or Vocational Nurse license to practice nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners

      Certified by Texas Department of Health to conduct screenings preferred; required within 1 school year of hire

      Healthcare Provider CPR certification

 

      Special Knowledge/Skills:

      Knowledge of physical assessment skills and signs and symptoms of disease

      Continuing education credits required for license renewal every two years

      Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policies and procedures; maintain emotional control              under stress

      Ability to multi-task, organize, prioritize and communicate

      Basic computer skills

      Bilingual communication skills preferred

 

      Experience:

      Minimum of two years professional nursing experience, preferably in pediatric nursing, school nursing, or community              health.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Acts as a substitute nurse when nurse is off campus or involved in on campus health screening or teaching.
  2. Provide services and assists in the effective implementation of Health Services program in an assignment that is subject to change based upon need.
  3. Work collaboratively with Health Services/Director of Student Health Services and the primary school nurse regularly assigned to a campus.
  4. Communicate changes or concerns to primary campus nurse and or campus principal if indicated.
  5. Provide emergency and or acute care for specific students as directed and according to district policy and procedures.
  6. Manage the activities/care and needs of a school in the absence of the regularly assigned nurse.
  7. Maintain appropriate documentation in SNAP or other system as directed by primary campus nurse.
  8. Assist campus nurse with documentation and reports.
  9. Attend field trips with medically fragile students that require nursing care if directed.
  10. Assist primary campus nurse in immunizations or studies if necessary for continuity of care. 

Professional

  1. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  2. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  3. Maintains nursing license with the Texas Board of Nursing and certification in CPR as a healthcare provider (BLS). Vision and hearing screening certification is preferred but optional. Provide copies of all licenses and certifications to Health Services.
  4. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  5. Attends professional development seminars.

 Other

  1. Participates in nurse staff meetings if requested by the Director of Student Health Services.
  2. Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

If assigned by primary campus nurse, supervise assigned nurse aides or office staff for delegated duties.

 

Equipment Used:

      Thermometer, blood pressure cuff, audiometer, otoscope, sphygmomanometer, vision/hearing screening equipment, basic clinic equipment, including 02, ambu bag, epipen, peak flow meter and nebulizer, syringes, personal computer, copier and refrigerator.

Exposure to bacteria communicable disease, and blood borne pathogens.
