Wage/Hour Status: Non-standard Hourly

Pay Grade: $14.52/hour

Primary Purpose:

The child activity specialist works with LEP students within an after-school hours English enrichment program while their parents are provided with family literacy services (to assist parents in helping children to improve their academic achievement) during a community participation program.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work well with children

Ability to communicate effectively

Proficient in English and Spanish (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening)

Experience:

Experience working is school setting preferred

Some experience working with children

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Support parental involvement activities and family literacy services as a coordinated endeavor with Hays CISD
2. Organize opportunities for parents to share concerns and input regarding their children’s educational needs
3. Locate needed resources for families, such as food, clothing, and medical care as needed to support teachers
4. Provide activities for children in the English Enrichment Program

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard classroom and nursery equipment such as toys, playgrounds, multiple-rider strollers, etc. Personal computer and printer.

Posture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping.

Motion: Moderate walking, climbing, lifting, balancing, and handing or moving materials.

Lifting: Regular lifting and carrying (up to 35 pounds).

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; frequent exposure to bodily fluids; work with frequent interruptions.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress and self-control in the presence of children.
