Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Grade / Days:   PP04, 187 days  

 

Primary Purpose:

Assist LPAC Coordinators and teachers of English learners in the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee in the areas of preparation, management, and instruction.  Support and assist administrators and teachers in clerical duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate

Have met formal academic assessment, associate’s degree, or two years of study at institution of higher learning*

Valid Texas educational aide certificate

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics

Ability to work well with children

Ability to communicate effectively

Knowledge of the Bilingual/ESL guidelines

Proficient in English and Spanish (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking)

 

Experience:

Some experience working with students

Some experience working with Bilingual/ESL programs, preferred

 

Instructional Support

  1. Provide instruction to students under the direction of teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  2. Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  3. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  4. Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
  5. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  6. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  7. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

Student Management

  1. Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  2. Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.

Clerical:

  1. Help with inventory of LPAC forms and testing materials.
  2. Participate/translate in LPAC and GPC meetings at the request of the campus administrator.
  3. Participate/translate in parent/teacher conferences, 504 meetings, and ARD meetings or phone calls at the request of the administrator.

Other

  1. Serve as a liaison between the school and the parent/families of the school.
  2. Promote positive parenting throughout the elementary school campuses by providing training opportunities for parents/guardians on strategies to promote student success.
  3. Promote family welfare efforts by establishing contacts with community organizations.
  4. Provide timely and relevant information to parents/guardians concerning school and district activities, operations, procedures to improve home/school communication.
  5. Make personal contacts through a variety of modalities (electronic, face-to-face, home visits, etc.) to encourage parental engagement.
  6. Research collect, organize and coordinate resource materials and activities to facilitate parental involvement and engagement in their child’s education, under the direction of the campus principal and assistant superintendent.
  7. Participate in campus-based outreach activities, such as curriculum nights, special events, PTA meetings, etc.
  8. Maintain accurate records of activities, parent participation, and results of efforts.
  9. Develop and execute programs and initiatives to enhance services and strengthen relationships between school and home.
  10. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  11. Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
  12. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Posture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping

Motion: Moderate walking

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

 

*Required by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) for aides who are providing instructional support in Title I, Part A program.
