Description

Primary Purpose:
Oversee and coordinate the maintenance and repair of the vehicles within the Hays Consolidated Independent School District fleet, located at all transportation locations.

 

Qualifications:


Minimum Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)
High School diploma or equivalent with additional appropriate education and/or training.
Have a working knowledge of a specialized field such as automotive mechanics.
Valid Texas CDL License with passenger and student endorsements. (Class A Preferred/will need to obtain within first year employed.)
Maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
Valid Texas school bus certification.
Must pass a school bus driver physical examination for physical and emotional stability.
Certified Drug/Alcohol Awareness Program Supervisor. (Preferred)
TAPT Official certification. (Preferred)
TASBT Master certification. (Preferred)
Bilingual (Preferred)

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Must have a thorough working knowledge of modern buses.
Must have knowledge of diesel engines.
Must have adequate supervisory capacities and excellent work habits.
Must have the ability to organize and dispatch work.
Must have knowledge of tire repair, pressure washers and seat repair.
Knowledge of the automatic fuel dispensing system.
Must have a knowledge of motor vehicle laws.
Ability to implement 49 CFR Part 382, Drug and Alcohol Testing Requirements.
Ability to make critical decisions in pressure situations; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

 

Experience:
Five (5) years’ applicable school transportation experience. Five (5) years shop supervisory experience.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Check incoming and outgoing repair request and vehicles for repair.
2. Assign priorities to work orders and mechanics to perform work.
3. Order parts, supplies, and materials.
4. Send contract repairs to the proper shops.
5. Assure that adequate supplies are on hand at all times.
6. Assure that inventory records of supplies and parts are up-to-date.
7. Train personnel and assure safety in the work environment.
8. Serve as a substitute or extra-curricular trip driver of bus support when needed and meet all bus driver or support performance responsibilities.
9. Manage fuel island, wash bay, tire shop and seat repair operations.
10. Attend continuing education conferences and seminars on transportation issues to ensure the department remains in compliance with all federal and state guidelines as well as uses “best practice” for all safety issues.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises and evaluate performance of designated transportation employees.

 

Equipment Used:
School bus and all related equipment, vehicle diagnostic, repair equipment, personal computer, fax machine, phone, and copier.

 

Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Work is performed in a vehicle maintenance shop with considerable interfering noise levels. On call twenty-four hours a day for breakdowns and accident coverage. Conditions include temperature changes from weather, dirt, dust, oil, wetness, glare, draft, and mud. Hazards may include burns, shock, cuts, crushed fingers, and back injuries from lifting weights in excess of seventy-five pounds.
