Description

Job Title: Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician II

Reports to: HVAC Supervisor

Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt

Pay Grade: AU09, 248 days

 

Primary Purpose:
Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment throughout the district.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
High School diploma or equivalent Valid Texas driver’s license
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Refrigerant Transition and Recovery/Certification
Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (ACR) – Registered or Certified

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of service techniques for heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams and schematics
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems (troubleshoot)
Must be familiar with current NEC and HVAC code books and revisions Knowledge and ability to maintain boilers, cooling towers and chillers Ability to communicate and follow verbal and written instructions

 

Experience:
Two years of experience and TDLR ACR Registered or Certified

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Under general supervision diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
2. Assist with preventive maintenance of the chillers, boilers, pumps, motors, air handlers, variable frequency drivers, related systems and equipment.
3. Work in conjunction with Direct Digital Controls (DOC) technician and Energy Management to resolve HVAC issues.
4. Under general supervision repair, replace, or calibrate controls.
5. Under general supervision install new heating systems, air conditioning systems, and refrigeration components including piping and air ducts as needed.
6. Maintain Freon dispensing records to meet federal requirements.
7. Responsible for keeping truck stocked to make timely repairs on district HVAC systems.
8. Respond to emergencies as needed.
9. Update work orders daily through CMMS, and close upon work completion.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.


Safety
11. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and shop equipment and ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
12. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
13. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
14. Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
15. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Personnel lift, ladders, hand and power tools, refrigerant reclaiming machine, vacuum pump, soldering equipment, and light truck or van. Electrical meters, leak detector, manometers, velometer manifold pressure gauges, and ampmeter. Personal computer, district radio, and telephone.


Posture: Frequent standing


Motion: Frequent walking, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving.


Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over) on a daily basis.


Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel.
