Primary Purpose:

Coordinate the elementary science program for the district with the emphasis on the creation of an exemplary K-5 science curriculum that closely aligns to the state standards. Collaborate with principals, teacher, and other staff members to ensure the fidelity of the program. Assists in the development, delivery, implementation and monitoring of STEM curriculum, initiatives, events and projects at the elementary level.

 

 Qualifications:Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree in education

Master’s degree in related field or education preferred

Valid Texas teaching certificate, preferably with an emphasis in science

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to organize and coordinate a district-wide instructional program

Knowledge of the science TEKS

Knowledge of best practice instructional techniques for science

Ability to work well with others

Ability to communicate well

Strong instructional coaching skills that improve teaching

Aware of the current theories, techniques and methodologies of STEM

Knowledge in the development of K-12 STEM curriculum design

Experience:

Minimum of three years as an elementary science teacher; at least five years teaching experience. Prior successful experience with STEM education

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Coordinate the development of the district elementary science curriculum and monitor the implementation so as to increase student achievement.
  2. Serve as a resource to principals and teachers for the implementation of best-practice instructional strategies in science, K-5 and elementary STEM programs.
  3. Coordinate the inventory and/or distribution of materials to support high-quality instruction in science and district elementary STEM programs.
  4. Provide support to teachers that will increase their effectiveness in delivery science curriculum, such as modeling, planning and/or observing lessons.
  5. Develop, conduct and/or arrange staff development for science teachers
  6. Provide leadership to vertical teams in science.
  7. Assist campus principals and Director of Assessment and Accountability in analyzing STAAR data and coordinating efforts to improve instruction in both whole and small group settings.
  8. Coordinate the development, implementation, and analysis of district curriculum-based science assessments.
  9. Work closely with the secondary science coordinator to align a successful K-12 science program.
  10. Build STEM capacity regarding all curriculum, initiatives, projects among staff and administrators.
  11. Work with district administration, curriculum coordinators, instructional coaches and campus administration to design and provide professional development focused on improving alignment and delivery of the written taught, and tested curriculum to increase student success and close performance gaps.
  12. Provide effective professional development to adult learners including modeling of differentiated instruction.
  13. Attend professional development training to expand leadership skills.
