Pay Grade: AP03
Primary Purpose: Provide support to parents, teachers, and administrators in the management of student behaviors.
Qualifications: Education/Certification: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in education or special education(ED certification preferable) OR TSBEP Licensed Specialist in School Psychology OR NASP Certified School Psychologist
Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge/experience in crisis prevention/intervention Understanding of emotional and developmental disorders of childhood Strong background/knowledge in applied behavior analysis Ability to interpret data from educational and psychological evaluations Understanding of Federal and SBOE rules for education of students with disabilities Good verbal and written communication skills Ability to work with other professionals in leadership as well as collaborative roles Ability to provide staff development training as well as training to parents Knowledge/experience in crisis prevention/intervention Knowledge of TBSI rules for students in Special Education
Experience: Minimum of three years’ experience providing services to students with special needs Classroom teaching experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties for all Behavior Specialists: 1. Conduct formal and/or informal evaluations of student behavior. 2. Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary assessment team. 3. Develop behavior intervention plans. 4. Assist in the implementation of behavior intervention plans. 5. Assist in the implementation of universal behavior screenings. 6. Conduct follow-up assessment/observation of progress on the behavior plan. 7. Collaborate with educators to develop programming for students with special needs. 8. Provide staff development training. 9. Provide support and training to parents. 10. Assist families and school staff in accessing community resource services, when needed. 11. Assist campus administrators with the development of behavioral interventions. 12. Participate in SLC placement determinations. 13. Ensure program design based on scientifically based research. 14. Ensure programs are meeting district goals as related to LRE. 15. Ensure program is meeting student needs (behavioral and academic).
Elementary Behavior Specialist 16. Work with students individually or in small groups to facilitate behavioral changes. 17. Provide social skills training to entire classroom.
Secondary Behavior Specialist 18. Serve as Behavior consultant to secondary campuses. 19. Coordinates Secondary Focus Programs.

Treat other staff with respect and dignity. 22. Interact with others effectively and responds to customer needs in a courteous, respectful manner. Answer all phone calls and emails within 24 hours of receipt. 23. Maintain confidentiality. 24. Work collaboratively with the Department to develop a common vision of excellence and to ensure attainment of team, department, and district goals.

Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent travel throughout the district. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
