Primary Purpose:
Assist with regular and special route operations and support drivers/monitors. Daily coordination of all bus routes to ensure that they are all running as scheduled with a certified driver. Keep and update all route information pertaining to the TEA state reports for Hays CISD transportation funding.

 

Qualifications:


Education/Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid and clear Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
Valid Texas School Bus Driver Certification
Must pass school bus driver physical examination
Possess and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record
Must be able to read, write and speak English
Certified Drug/Alcohol Awareness Program Supervisor
Accident Investigation Training, or complete within 180 days of start date

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Proficient typing and word processing skills
Strong computer software skills including above average proficiency in MS word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google, internet maps and basic internet navigation
Excellent interpersonal skills in order to ensure positive relations with all patrons
Ability to work in multi-task environment
Ability to drive a school bus or monitor
Strong problem-solving abilities
Capable of responding calmly in emergency situations
Knowledge of state rules for transporting students
Knowledge of the roads, subdivisions, campuses, and individual school programs
Knowledge of school locations, streets, attendance zones and boundaries
Knowledge and ability to prepare state and federal reports
Knowledge of TEA rules and regulations concerning school bus routing

 

Experience:
Three (3) years of Transportation operation/training experience

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Assist route coordinator in oversight of the routing functions.
2. Assist drivers/monitors with student management concerns.
3. Access bus video surveillance system for safety and security purposes.
4. Assist with creating and monitoring routing of all buses. Includes route description, maps, etc. for each driver and TEA route description for files.
5. Participate in the creation and maintenance of ridership products.
6. Assist route coordinator in oversight of dispatching functions.
7. Manage, supervise and counsel drivers/monitors.
8. Use the two-way radio for verbal instruction and communication with bus drivers and district staff.
9. Participate in student management conferences.
10. Attend ARD meetings when Coordinator is not available.
11. Meet the qualifications and established requirements of a school bus driver, including safe driving procedures, proper student management, and adherence to all federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
12. Serve as a substitute or extra-curricular trip driver or bus support when needed and meet all bus driver or support performance responsibilities.
13. Provide input to department Emergency Operations and Planning (EOP) procedures.
14. Investigate accidents involving Department vehicles and/or employees while on the job. Maintain records/files on each accident/injury.
15. Monitor traffic and weather conditions.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and evaluate performance of Drivers and other designated employees.

Tools/Equipment Used: School bus and all related equipment, personal computer, transportation operations software programs, copier, adding machine, telephone, two-way radio, fax machine, TV VCR, and camera.


Posture: Extensive sitting, bending/stooping, twisting, turning, pulling/pushing.


Motion: Reaching and climbing.


Lifting: Lifting up to 50 pounds and carrying.


Environment: Normal office environment, frequent interruptions and possibility of extended hours, outside, excessive heat, cold, humidity, dampness or chilling, intermittent noise, fumes, wind and dust.


Mental demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.
